Description: Pistachios are the fruit of the eponymous small tree (Pistacia vera). This tree is commonly found in the Middle East and Central Asia. Today it is commonly cultivated in the USA, Turkey and Iran. It is one of the oldest arable crops from rather drier subtropical regions.
Pistachios are a key source of protein; they are considered a superfood rich in phosphorus, vitamin B1 or potassium. Pistachios reduce blood pressure and blood cholesterol, they have positive effects with respect to anaemia as well as anticarcinogenic effects. They are recommended in weight-loss diets or as “brain food” (nervous system booster). They are commonly recommended to vegans and athletes.
